I do recommend two things though: Do a very slow repetition speed, say 4 seconds to lift the weight and four seconds to lower the weight. This will keep momentum out of the lift which would put less stress on your knees. The second thing I recommend is to do a pain free range of motion. Lower the platform only to the point that stays pain free on your knee, then come back up. You should be able to get stronger without further damage to your knee.
